CHAPTER SEVEN
TONYâS apartment wasnât far from St Patrickâs hospital. It was within the same inner city circle as Kellyâs rented house, but it was a world away in every respect other than location.
The eighteenth-century, slate-roofed stone buildings had once been a boysâ school, but had been converted in recent years to luxury apartments. One end of the complex included a turret, and Tonyâs spacious living space incorporated the upper portion of this turret as the main bedroom. It was the en-suite bathroom attached to this round room that Kelly was led into.
âHelp yourself to towels and shampoo and anything else you need,â Tony invited. âIf you give me your dress, Iâll rinse it out and put it in the dryer. If itâs OK to do that?â
Kelly simply nodded. She hadnât uttered a word since entering Tonyâs apartment.
This was all so unreal.
Stunning.
The surroundings were a statement of wealth, but rather than being ostentatious they gave an impression that the man who lived here was dignified and intelligent.
Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves were full, but only the bottom shelves were stocked with medical tomes. Kelly could see at a glance that Tony read incredibly widely, and enjoyed novels as well as non-fiction. A beautiful antique globe caught her eye, and it took a moment to register that it was of the night sky and stars rather than the earth and its land masses. A powerful-looking telescope stood nearby, and a glance upwards revealed a purpose built skylight.
Gorgeous Persian rugs were scattered over a richly polished wooden floor dotted with leather couches. The deepset gothic arched windows looked as if they belonged in a church rather than someoneâs living quarters, but, while the room was quintessentially masculine and exquisitely decorated, it had the warmth of being a home and not just a living space.
A very special home.
The round, uncovered stone walls of the master bedroom were breathtaking, and the adjoining bathroom had somehow been designed to look as if it belonged, with its slipper bath and polished brass fittings.
What was even more stunning than the apartment, however, was the fact that she was here.
That Tony had brought her into his home.
Further into his life.
Still wordless, Kelly turned, holding up her hair so that Tony could unfasten the zip on the back of her dress.
âWouldnât want you to have to go home in a bathrobe later,â Tony said as he complied with the unspoken request.
Having undone the zip, he slipped the shoestring straps from her shoulders. The dress fell away, but Tonyâs hands lingered.
And then Kelly felt the brush of his lips on the bare skin where the straps had rested.
âMuch later,â he murmured.
With a visible effort at self-control, Tony moved to turn on the shower. He picked up the dress.
âIâll be right back,â he promised.
Kelly was standing amongst the multiple jets in a shower that was almost the size of her entire bathroom by the time Tony returned. Her heart tripped and sped up as she saw him start to unbutton his shirt. He really did intend to share this enormous shower.
